Can I Become a Video Game Tester If I'm Under 18?

[ad_1]

If you're under 18 and wondering if you can get a video game testing job, the simple answer is yes. There are a few cases in which you will be eligible to become a video game tester. Unfortunately, your options are more limited than they would be if you were older.

For example, you will not be eligible for most on-site video game testing jobs. This involves going directly to the facility of the gaming company to test games early in the process. Most of these jobs are reserved for high school graduates and above, except in special cases where large groups of testers are needed. If you live near the facility of a gaming company, feel free to contact them about available video game testing jobs for teenagers.

Otherwise, off-site video game testing jobs are a lot easier for teens to qualify for. They are shorter term, but you can apply for many of them at the same time. These jobs will involve you testing the game in your own home, and they often begin later in the testing process. Off-site jobs are usually less restrictive and structured than testing on-site. You will have more freedom, but you will probably make less money.

The easiest way to get a video game testing job if you're under 18 is to sign up for a membership site online. These are the places that many companies take their game testing job openings to get them filled quickly. Unfortunately, most of the legitimate websites like this have a small fee associated with them. Unless you have your own debit card or PayPal account, you'll need your parents' help to get started.

How To Speed Up The Spore Game On Windows PCs – Working Spore Speedup Tutorial

[ad_1]

One of the most popular online games of the moment, Spore, is unfortunately causing a lot of problems for PC gamers. This game is considered to be one of the most extremely advanced and enjoyable games around, but in many instances, users are reporting setbacks while playing this game on their PCs. Most of the time the problem is that Spore loads or runs at a very slow pace in the computer and users are getting incredibly frustrated with it. If you experience this, you have to check out what is causing this trouble. There are a number of methods to counter this problem and make your gaming experience a more enjoying one.

Why Does Spore Often Run Slow?

When you play this highly exciting video game, it is annoying if the speed is not complementing the pace of the game. Fortunately, this game will be able to run much faster if you follow some easy steps and techniques, thus ensuring a more favorable playing experience. Some of the things you can do include:

  • shutting down the other programs that are running in your computer
  • updating Windows
  • ensuring that your registry is clean & fully operational

How To Make Spore Run Faster

To play Spore at a more acceptable speed, you have to first make sure all other applications or programs are closed. It may be very simple, but it is obviously a very effective solution to this problem. Most players play this game while simultaneously running other programs, which means Spore does not have access to the resources it needs. All applications require a certain amount of memory space to be loaded up in the computer, and if you have several programs that are open, expect these files to compete for the available memory. At times, your computer will have problems allocating the memory that is needed by these applications to run at the same time. If this is happening, Spore will not run as fast. Simply close down all these programs by simultaneously pressing CTRL, ALT & DELETE keys on the keyboard to open Task Manager. Select the Processes tab from the menu that shows up. Afterwards, remove the applications which have nothing to do with the Spore video game.

The next step that can be done is to adjust the settings of the game. Spore is a fast-paced game and the temptation is for you to crank the settings of the game to its maximum. Unfortunately, doing so can result in setbacks rather than enhance your game's experience. Using the advanced settings means your computer has to use up more processing power, thus, giving it a little room for the game to run as smoothly as it needs to. The settings should be reduced and it should be to a level that is just enough for your requirements. To do this, locate the game's "Settings" field and then look for the Video Options / Graphic Options and adjust to a lower level. Hopefully, you will notice an immediate difference in the speed of the game.

The final step is to ensure that your registry is clean. The registry is often the culprit that is affecting the game's speed. It has been identified as the cause of a lot of errors with other programs because so many failures and breakdowns in your system happen here. The registry is the central database where the vital files, settings, and information are recorded. The operating system has to read the necessary files that are kept here to run all of its programs efficiently. Once this registry becomes damaged, you will notice problems and errors occur, including the slowing down of your PC. Applications may also fail to be loaded up. To ensure you fix this problem, you have to use a registry cleaning program. This registry cleaner tool will scan your system and eliminate errors and address issues that may hamper your computer's performance.

[ad_1]

Mahjong games owe their origin to China and they are played through use of tiles. It was not until in the 1920's that its popularity in countries such as the US begun. It is an intelligence game and requires a high sense of concentration. While it is a difficult game to master and learn, once a player gets the idea behind it, it becomes easy to excel in a limitless manner. Ordinarily, these require four players and while this is the case, there are variations. There are several benefits associated with it and some of these are as highlighted below.

Treatment of Dementia
Mahjong games can be classed as cognitive games and researchers claim that it has the ability of treating dementia. It requires a high sense of concentration, planning, calculation skills and memory and as such, a player's memory is always sharpened. Those people who play these games have the ability of developing cognitive measures and these effects last for a long duration if for any reason, they skip playing for a month.

Improvement of Cognitive Abilities
A large number of seniors suffer from dementia at one point in their life and by indulging in this they have a better chance of ensuring that this does not happen. Hyperiums Review

[ad_1]

Cost: Free with a yearly sub option $ 17.00 USD of / year
Modes: Two, Permanent and RLF (Real Life Friendly)
Style: Test based MMORTS (Mass Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy)
Final Score: 4 out of 5

Overview
Hyperiums is a space based real time strategy game. This is a game designed around the social aspect of online RTS gaming. Although some will find mild success with playing solo, or pirating as it's referred to in the game, the majority of players will belong to an alliance.

This game can be played at home or from work as there are no ads in the game and is text based with very light game created graphics so there should be nothing that should be stopped by traditional work filters

The Facts (on a 5 star scale )

Graphics – 3

The simple fact is this is a text based game with virtually 0 graphics. There are some space fleet graphics that cycle through in the back ground and the planets icons are simple but clean. The font is easy enough to read as a yellowish font on a dark background. Nothing is fuzzy or hard to see. The only thing keeping this from getting a higher rating is the complete lack of any real graphics.

Replay Value – 4

I have been playing this game for six years now. This game is NEVER the same from day to day. You can be part of an alliance, you can commit treason and sell your alliance's planet list (if you have access), you can try to be a peaceful trader, you will fight in wars for territory, and the list goes on … The only thing that keeps this from getting a 5 is if you are a warmonger then you at some point you will become bored with the game.

Community – 5+

If I could give this a 6 I would. The Hyperiums community is like none other that I have been part of. They support and develop tools for the game and keep them updated and are CONSTANTLY making some kind of improvements. Even the author of the site will chime in from time to time and help the devs with things. Please do not misunderstand; there is also a fair amount of whining, complaining, and flaming done on the msg boards but its all in good fun and part of the game.

Its worth mentioning here that if you are not an avid mIRC user then you are going to want to be to play this game.

Mechanics – 4

The learning curve on this game is hard to explain (which is why it gets a 4 and not a 5). Its somewhat difficult to master the game (not anywhere near as hard as say EVE) but if you get in with a good alliance you should be fine. This game is a RTS game that is based on "time ticks" certain events that happen every day at the same time (based on server time of course). Once you learn these the game becomes much simpler.

The goal of the creator of this game is to create a permanent game that never has to be reset. Having said that in the time that I have been playing we have had 2 major resets (not bad for 6+ years)

Feel- 4

The overall game play and feel of this game works well together, there is not really anything about this game that makes it feel out of place or awkward. Its a fun place to play a game when you have 5min or 2hrs to kill. As the game progresses it does take up more of your time. Once you get far enough in the game it's easy to spend 3-5hrs a day on this game and sometimes more. This is for the permanent game; if you can not commit this much time there is a RLF (Real Life Friendly) version of the game that moves at a much slower pace with the "time ticks" spread out more. Some people play both !!

Personal Impressions

As stated above I have been playing this game for sixish years so yes I like it a lot. We have just had a hard reset on the game so it's a good time to get in a learn as even the vets of the game are having to figure out a few things again !! I am not naive, this game is not for everyone; however, if you like politics, war and strategy this is game is worth trying out.

My only request is that if you do try it out. Stick around for at least 30 days to get a good feel for it! If nothing else its a good game to play from work when your boss is not looking !!

Getting started

1. Start out in a protected super cluster
2. Look for an alliance to join right away

Mastering Red Crucible 2 In a Few Easy Steps

[ad_1]

Red Crucible 2 is my favorite online multiplayer game because it is rendered in 3D and features stunning effects, real-time lighting, and the opportunity to use some of the deadliest, cutting-edge weapons and vehicles in the world. After playing this game once, anyone will be hooked. Mastering the game requires some skill so here are some insider tips that I have used to play like a pro.

Take a Team Approach

In this game, players engage in air, vehicle, and infantry combat in several different arenas. Since it is multiplayer, tactics and strategies are required. Groups should fly or drive together to increase their firepower in an exponential way. Staying together also allows players to cover each other and puts more eyes on the surroundings to identify threats. Join friendly players and regroup as necessary to prevent anyone from traveling alone.

Travel by vehicle whenever possible because it is more difficult to destroy and shortens travel time. If friendlies are traveling together by tank and helicopter, the helicopters should cover the tanks. Drivers of tanks are exposed to threats can be seen from above. A helicopter can use the sun as a cover, becoming difficult to spot.

Success at Red Crucible 2 Requires Attention

Helicopters are often the first targets encountered during game play. They are faster than tanks and stay above the line of sight. Keep an eye on the sky while battling enemies on the ground. If out in the open, do not attack a helicopter. Do this from a covered position such as behind a bush, building, or vehicle. An effective trick is to attack helicopters from behind an empty vehicle. My enemies become confused and instead of attacking me, they attack the vehicle in front of me.

To spot targets and attack them, use the different views. Driver, gunner, focus, and third-person views make it easier to locate targets and attack them. Never shoot without a target in range because an enemy miles away can spot the missile or shell. Sounds of shooting also reveal a hidden location to an enemy.

Though this is a shooting game, it is sometimes better not to attack. If a target is difficult to destroy, go around it and find a more suitable target. Continue moving toward the enemy base, establishing an offensive position. Keep moving while attacking and navigate from one cover position to another. Keep these tips to yourself because they will help you win!

3-Ball Pool – A Quick and Easy Billiard Game

[ad_1]

Over the years, I have been introduced to many variations of billiard games. Some games may take some time to complete, while others are over relatively fast. The two most popular games, 8-ball and 9-ball, for example, will cost average players about 10-15 minutes of their time. Some games, such as rotation and cowboy pool, will take a bit longer. But what if you are pressed for time and want to get in a quick "bragging rights" billiard match with a friend? Or maybe you are alone and want to brush up on your shot setups and break speed, and you want something quick and easy.

One of my favorite, quicker billiard games involves a simple 3-ball triangle setup and one or more opponents. A single match with two players should not take any longer than five minutes. If no opponent is available, a quick game of solo 3-ball is a great drill for leaves and anticipating a few shots ahead.

The rules of the game are quite simple. Place three billiard balls in triangle formation on the head spot, and place your cue ball anywhere in the kitchen (behind the scratch line), as if you were breaking for a normal game of 8-ball or 9-ball. Each billiard shot, including the break, counts as one stroke. If a scratch occurs, it is counted as two extra strokes, plus the shot you just made, totaling three. Each player keeps shooting until all three balls have been pocketed. The player with the fewest strokes after each player sinks all three of their balls is the victor.

If you are looking for a billiard game that is simple to understand and not very time-consuming, then 3-ball billiards is the way to go. Make it more interesting by setting up tournaments or making small wagers with your friends. Or incorporate it into other pool games as short bonus rounds. Whatever your preference, once you start, you will be finding yourself playing 3-ball pool over and over again.

Starting a Private Server – Attracting Players, Having Fun, Profiting

[ad_1]

Some of you maybe already own one or multiple private servers; some of you may yet be starting out with your very first private server, thinking: "wow, how do I compete with servers that already have over 500 or more players?" In general, you do not. Here's a couple of practical tips and information you need to think about.

Lots of mmorpg players
The reason most servers have a high player base is that because they have been around for a couple of years, or their owners already spent (a lot) of money advertising the server using different methods.

When starting a private server, your main goal should be to entertain your player base, make them feel like they are part of your community, not a money making machine. A lot of people want to create a private server because they think it will make them money, well; it CAN make you money.

Starting a private server is much like starting an internet business, I will take it upon me to quote one line from an e-book I have read, the line states "Knowing, Caring, Profiting", and these are exactly the steps you need to take to start a successful private server.

You will need to KNOW what tools are required for starting the private server; tools can be money, hardware, knowledge, connections.

You genuinely need to CARE about your server; this means everything that comes with it: players (community), scripts (setting up custom content), server (maintaining a lag-free environment). This is of course not everything, but these are probably the issues you will mostly be busy with.

After you gain all knowledge that is needed to set up the server, as well as showing that you actually care for the players and the community by participating in play or running awesome events, you can PROFIT from it by asking for donations in exchange for items or services.

Knowing
Knowing also means that you know which type of private server you want to run, this goes hand in hand with caring for the content and topic your server is started for; if you do not care about World of Warcraft, do NOT start a World of Warcraft private server. You might want to be tempted to do this because WoW is very popular, but this also means that there are a lot of other private servers trying to make money from it as well.

Another part of knowing is diving into the documentation that comes with the private servers, setting it up is relatively easy, you can set up a Ragnarok Online private server within 15 minutes and have players coming to it. The main thing your server will need to even remotely compete with others is "content"; yes, every game has its own content but why would players come to a server that has 0-10 players instead of one that has 1000+ and has some custom weapons? Exactly; they will not.

This means you will have to think of unique content that players would like to see, you can either have someone create the content for you for a price, or do it yourself. Depending on your financial situation this may vary. If you choose to let others create content / scripts, it's always good to at least know something about it so you can provide valuable input.

You could ask around on various forums what players really want to see in a private server, and work with that, once it's finished, you can then advertise your server together with the announcement that you have this 'elite' content they wanted.

Not only content is important, you will also need to know and keep track of updates that the emulator provides, so you can stay up to date on your server and have the latest bug fixes and content.

"Enthusiasm is the first and most critical ingredient to building a successful private server."

Caring
Like I said before, you will need to care about every aspect of your private server if you want to profit from it. This is exactly why you need to pick a game you are comfortable with; maybe you have played the game yourself. You will need to be enthusiastic about it and you should have fun running the private server altogether.

Look for enthusiasm, not money. Money is always nice, but it should not be your main focus. If you enjoy running your server, players will enjoy walking and jumping about on it, and will genuinely feel that they are a part of your community. This results in these players inviting their friends to play with them on your server (word of mouth) and will eventually result in increased traffic on your server.

I will discuss marketing your private server in an upcoming article, we will discuss how you can gain initial players to start with and keep them coming.

"Enthusiasm breeds success and success will bring in profits."

Like I said before, you will need to care about every aspect of your private server if you want to profit from it. This is exactly why you need to pick a game you are comfortable with; maybe you have played the game yourself. You will need to be enthusiastic about it and you should have fun running the private server altogether.

Patience is also a concept of caring for your private server. Of course you will want to have 50 players running about on the server within the first week, but unless you have attained credibility through another source (friend / marketing / being famous), this is unlikely to happen.

Setting up a server is easy, maintaining a server is hard work. When you start out, nobody knows your server even exists, so obviously you will have zero to none players. You will have to create awareness of it to attract players.

You need patience:

  • As you gain your first players
  • As you gain enough players to profit from it enough to cover the monthly hosting costs
  • For word of mouth to spread between players so they come play on YOUR server
  • To see how well your advertisement and awareness techniques have worked out.
  • For your reputation to succeed you

"Simply put, you need patience to achieve what you want to achieve."

Profiting
After your server has a vast traffic base you can start asking for donations. Maybe you have already done this when you started your server and received a few dollars in the process. The more players you have the more profit you will gain from donations.

On private servers, donations mostly go hand in hand in exchange for items; the player pays an amount of cash in exchange for an item or credits, which can be used to purchase items ingame. This is probably the most popular method of profiting from a private server.

When you receive great amounts of profit, do not start to neglect your server, remember that your income is dependent on the players, and when they leave; so does your cash flow.

Re-invest your profits into the server:

  • Create an extra 'realm' or 'world'
  • Redesign the website by making it easier to access
  • Provide a 3 way system for players to join (3 steps "register, download, play").
  • Advertise your server on toplist sites such as mmotop100.net
  • Use Google AdWords to redirect players to your website

There are countless methods you can use to invest your profits to gain even more players.

"Remember: Players = Profit = Players"

That's all I have to offer at this moment, I will write an article about how you can improve awareness of your server, market it and attract new players.

Tell me about your private server experiences, which methods do you use to advertise and create awareness for it, how long did it take for your server to have a vast amount of players?

What Countries Allow Online Gambling

[ad_1]

The world of internet gambling is strictly regulated and it is important to first be aware of what countries allow online gambling before you start. Online casinos have experienced a steady growth in popularity over the past few years, with more and more people registering with sites in order to enjoy their favorite casino games.

You will find a few countries around the world where this practice is legal and many of them house servers that are accessible to people residing in countries where it is not. This means that if you live in a country where gambling online is banned, you might still be able to play by dialing into a server that is hosted outside of your country.

The United States of America

It is true that more and more countries are realizing the benefits of legalizing internet gambling and are actively taking steps toward this. However, the law governing the prohibition of internet gambling in America is somewhat unclear. The estimate is that approximately 70 percent of US citizens make up the internet gambling population and suffer little consequences because of it. It may be that the situation is difficult to monitor and regulate because gambling online happens in the privacy of your home and not in the public eye.

Online Gambling Around The World

You can do a simple search online to find out what countries allow online gambling. The list below reflects a few of these where online gambling is legal:

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Gibraltar
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Liechtenstein
  • Macau
  • Malta
  • New Zealand
  • Panama
  • Philippines
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Scandinavia
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Switzerland

Countries like Argentina, Mexico and a few Asian countries have all started the process of legalizing online gambling.

Enforcement and Regulation

Although the internet gambling industry is heavily regulated, experts admit that it is difficult to monitor because of its fairly anonymous nature. This poses a problem where online gambling is banned because it is virtually impossible to pinpoint players in the country who sign on from their homes. This begs the argument that why ban online gambling at all if it is so easily accessible and difficult to monitor? Regulation remains easier than prohibition in most cases and the trend seems to show that more and more countries are realizing this.

It is best to properly investigate what countries allow online gambling to ensure that you are on the right side of the law when enjoying your favorite casino games. This will also guarantee that you get to keep whatever winnings you make online.

TEFL and ESL Board Games For the Classroom

[ad_1]

Classroom board games are probably one of the most effective teaching tools available. Here we see how to stimulate and motivate students, and provide a welcome change to more standard classroom teaching approaches, giving students a refreshing new focus to practice their spoken English.

A few important points to bear in mind when using board games, which will increase their effectiveness and get the students speaking in English are:

  1. The first rule to establish is that the game is to be played in English. Give some input vocabulary such as 'Whose turn is it?', 'Pass the dice please' or for a bit of fun 'Hey, stop cheating!'. Then as the game progresses and you see other linguistic requirements, supply them, drill them briefly, and continue to play. I often have students keep a separate booklet for game playing vocabulary. The students motivation is strong, so take advantage of it!
  2. Encourage students to speak in only English by establishing the second rule: not speaking in the target language forfeits a turn. This sounds a little dramatic and harsh, but you'll be amazed how well it works. It also creates an enormous amount of spontaneity of language, resulting in increased fluency and a reduction in response times.
  3. Teachers usually think in terms of one-class time slots, whereby the material to be used is to be finished by the end of the allotted time. This can lead to unnecessarily self-imposed restrictions on the choice of materials. I often let a game run for 3 or 4 lessons in order to let the students become highly familiar with the vocabulary fields as well as letting them build up a sense of momentum to the outcome.
  4. Students should 'earn' the right to take a turn to generate the motive for speaking. This would mean, for example, asking a team to answer a question before being allowed to take a turn. Depending on the the theme of the board game, you may also use relevant video clips, story reconstructions with visuals or maybe role play situations in parallel, which allow students to score points which in turn allow them to throw the dice.
  5. Do not just limit yourself to the rules in the game. Feel free to 'play God' and adjust the rules as you find convenient to make the game move more slowly or faster. It's amazing how our knee-jerk reaction to a game's set of rules sometimes leaves us feeling powerless over how to play the game! Such changes may include giving new consequences to the value of a throw on the dice eg 'if a player throws a 5, then they get to throw again'. Wham! You've got a new dimension to the game.
  6. Keep teacher talking time down! Let the students run the game – you just police it from a distance, supplying language as required. Because a board game generates spontaneous situations within a defined linguistic area, this is the perfect opportunity for the teacher to take back stage, and just give 'hot correction' when required. Error feed back and remedial work can be given at intervals as appropriate.
